March marks National Nutrition Month to encourage healthy eating habits. This month-long celebration serves as a reminder that proper nutrition is the foundation for overall health and well-being. Whether you're looking to make small dietary improvements or overhaul your eating habits completely, I look forward to working with you.
Food is Medicine
Good nutrition is essential for maintaining energy levels, supporting immune function, and reducing the risk of chronic diseases such as diabetes, heart disease, and obesity. A well-balanced diet consisting of whole foods, lean proteins, healthy fats, vegetables, and fruits ensures that your body gets the necessary vitamins and minerals to function optimally. A blood work nutrition analysis can provide foundational knowledge for your current nutrition status to understand areas of focus. For example: Does your body need more protein, are you dehydrated, or have you consumed enough natural fats? I can help.
Better Nutrition
I’m pretty sure we have all heard about “Eating a Rainbow” of food, “Prioritizing Whole Foods”, and “Staying Hydrated”, but do we do it? How can you be sure? Log what you eat. Use an app or the old fashioned piece of paper and pen. An app truly is the best because it calculates your protein, fat and carbohydrates and calories.
Notice how often you eat vegetables and whole, unprocessed foods. Do you reach for a piece of fruit or something that is a processed sweet? How much water do you consume? Is it enough to support your body overall or after drinking caffeinated beverages and exercising? What is the right amount of protein for YOUR body? How can you avoid the 3pm slump? Questions abound! It’s hard to decide where to start. That’s where I can assist.
The European Journal of Social Psychology did a study and found that it can take 18 to 254 days to create and stick to a new habit. Partnering with a coach to implement lifestyle change can support you in speeding up the creation of new habits. Why? You have someone to hold you accountable, to encourage you, to answer questions, and to keep you on the path for the journey that you would like to complete. National Institutes of Health reports that wellness coaching can assist in lifestyle changes as fast as six weeks.
March is also spring break month for most of us. You may take a week of travel or fall off your nutrition path. That’s okay. Return to your plan and begin again. Living with an 80/20 principle can be helpful. Stay on course 80% of the time and once-in-a-while enjoy a favorite childhood treat, indulge a bit on vacation, enjoy a wedding or birthday celebration, and then return to your lifestyle plan.
It’s time to reflect on your eating habits and make adjustments that can lead to a healthier lifestyle. By focusing on nutritious foods, practicing mindful eating, and making informed choices, you can enhance your well-being and set a foundation for health. Need a coach? Let me know how I can help. I have room for four new clients.
